CoSpA a triple winner at Corporate Engagement Awards
Wednesday 19th September 2012
The Co-Sponsorship Agency picked up three awards last night, including the Grand Prix, at the Corporate Engagement Awards which recognise innovative and effective corporate sponsorship and partnership activities.
All three awards were in relation to the VIY Volunteer It Yourself project, created and developed by CoSpA and supported by Wickes. In addition to being awarded the Grand Prix as the best project or campaign of the year across all categories, VIY was also judged the winner of the Best Collaborative Approach and Best Community Involvement categories.
VIY challenges young people to learn building and construction skills on the job by committing to fix local youth club buildings in need of essential repairs. The young volunteers are mentored by professional tradespeople and gain qualifications as well as access to further training, work placement and apprenticeship opportunities.
VIY was successfully piloted in south London in 2011 and is now being rolled out in 47 locations across the UK over two years, involving 2,000 young people and 200 trade skills mentors. The national roll-out of VIY is being delivered by CoSpA in partnership with Wickes, London Youth, City & Guilds and The Big Lottery Fund.
