IARS Awards

The VIY Volunteer It Yourself project, created and co-delivered by Cospa, has won the Innovative Cross-Sector Partnership category at the 2013 IARS Awards, announced on 7th August.

VIY involves young people renovating youth club buildings in need of essential repairs and is currently being rolled out in 47 locations across the UK over two years in partnership with London Youth (and other regional youth club networks), Wickes, City & Guilds and the Big Lottery Fund.

The IARS Annual Research and Leadership Awards celebrate youth participation and leadership in social problem solving and are supported by the Nominet Trust and Big Lottery Fund, with the Innovative Cross-Sector Partnership award specifically sponsored by NCVYS (National Council for Voluntary Youth Services).

According to Keji Okeowo, Youth Participation Manager at NCYVS: “VIY immediately caught our eye when we started reviewing the award entries. Not only do young people take a leading role in shaping and delivering the project, it also involves a mix of cross-sector organisations all contributing something unique and essential to making the project happen.”
